Beware! The flip side of using deadlines as motivators is waiting until the deadline is really looming, e.g., leaving revision to the night before the exam is due or starting to write your report on the morning it’s due. This approach can result in poor quality or unfinished work and extra, unnecessary stress for you.

Use social obligations to increase the stakes

Having some sort of social obligation to fulfil, whether is it in collaboration or in competition with someone, can also give you that extra push.

Team up with someone/find an accountability buddy and check in with them regularly to report on your progress

Offer to present your work (or part of it) to a group of co-workers for feedback before the job is actually due. Or, if your work can benefit anyone else in the organisation/team, your study group, or your fellow co-founders, volunteer to prepare a presentation or write a summary report for them
